BACK FLOW PREVENTION

Backflow occurs when water from the property flows backward into our pipes. Devices we offer ensure our water supply isn’t contaminated from hazards on a customer’s property. They stop water in a customer’s water pipe flowing back into our water main.

Frequently asked questions

Plumbing

Fiber-optic pipeline video inspection?
A fiber-optic pipeline video inspection is a diagnostic process whereby a high-resolution fiber-optic video camera is inserted in a pipeline to view the pipe from the inside. It takes the guesswork out of diagnosing a pipeline problem and can pinpoint exactly where a problem is and exactly how to fix it in the most cost-effective manner.
What are the indications of a slab leak?
Checking the mater meeter - after making sure no water running at the facility (dishwashers, laundry, toilet, refilling, etc.). Many meters have a "leak detector" which appears as a small black triangle or a small white wheel. If this is spinning or there is any movement on the dial, this indicates a leak in the water pipe system.
What is a repipe?
A repipe is a complete replacement of the incoming fresh water system in a home or business from the water meter or well to all plumbing fixtures. As severe as it sounds it is actually a very common procedure. It is necessary in situations where the plumbing pipes have begun to leak due to deterioration, or when low pressure due to calcification is present in pipes.
When should I call JW Plumbing & Heating?
- Rumbling sound coming from the water heater - White substance around my shower head and faucet - Foul odor coming from garbage disposal - Higher than usual temperature of hot water.
Drain Misconnections and How They Affect the Planet
Aside from breaking the law, drain misconnections can have serious environmental implications by posing a threat to rivers, wildlife and our oceans. If you own any type of property, it’s your responsibility to be aware of the risks faulty drainage and misconnections can have on the environment and address them to minimise the impact.

Heating

When is time to do ductwork inspection in the building?
Issues such as leaks, cracks, and incorrectly sized ductwork can end up costing a lot of money in the long run from loss of energy. If there are issues with your ductwork it is best to have ductwork checked and than replaced or repaired as soon as possible.
Sizes of HVAC system - and problems they can cause
The right sized system for the commercial building - HVAC system will heat and cool effectively and the air will feel just right. The system that is not the right size for the building may cause issues. If the current HVAC system is too small, it may not be able to heat or cool correctly and efficiently during extreme weather. The system can running constantly and will increase your energy consumption significantly. Too big system will have trouble reducing the moisture in the air (while the thermostat switches off after reading the right temperature) the air still feels humid.
The right thermostat can help control temperature, humidity levels, and energy consumption in the commercial building
Right choice of thermostat is right for commercial building The type of thermostat will depend on the size of the commercial building. Small buildings may even go with a residential thermostat. Programmable thermostat will allow to adjust heating and cooling with the patterns of building use. A commercial operation that has several buildings, or one large building that needs separate zoning, may be better off using multiple thermostats that are all controlled in one central place. This makes it easy to keep buildings or areas at different temperatures without having to adjust each area separately. No matter which type of thermostat - programmable is always the best choice.

AC

What is Central air conditioning?
Central air conditioners and heat pumps are designed to cool the entire house. It employs the same types of components, materials, and systems as a refrigerator, including a refrigerant that changes from liquid to gas and back to liquid as it travels through a system of tubes and coils or fins that collect and give off heat.
Two types of central air conditioners
1. Split-system. In a split-system central air conditioner, an outdoor metal cabinet contains the condenser and compressor, and an indoor cabinet contains the evaporator. In many split-system air conditioners, this indoor cabinet also contains a furnace or an air handler. The air conditioner's evaporator coil is installed in the cabinet or main supply duct of this furnace or heat pump. If your home already has a furnace but no air conditioner, a split system is the most economical central air conditioner to install.
2. Packaged central air conditioner Benefits of a central air-conditioning systemIn a packaged central air conditioner, the evaporator, condenser, and compressor are all located in one cabinet, which usually is placed on a roof or on a concrete slab next to the house's foundation. Air supply and return ducts come from indoors through the home's exterior wall or roof to connect with the packaged air conditioner, which is usually located outdoors. Packaged air conditioners often include electric heating coils or a natural gas furnace. This combination of air conditioner and central heater eliminates the need for a separate furnace indoors.
Benefits of a central air-conditioning system
-Indoor comfort during warm weather – Central air conditioning helps keep your home cool and reduces humidity levels. - As your central air-conditioning system draws air out of the rooms in your house through return air ducts, the air is pulled through an air filter, which removes airborne particles such as dust and lint. Sophisticated filters, like those found in the Lennox Healthy Climate® purification systems, may remove microscopic pollutants, as well. The filtered air is then routed to air supply ductwork that carries it back to the rooms. – Cleaner air. Because the compressor-bearing unit is located outside the home, the indoor noise level from its operation is much lower than that of a free-standing air- conditioning unit.
What is the difference between VRV & VRF systems
VRV is short for Variable Refrigerant Volume. VRF stands for Variable Refrigerant Flow. The fact is, these are two different names for the same basic technology. Why are there two names for the same thing? Back in 1982, Daikin Industries invented the first Variable Refrigerant Volume system and trademarked the term VRV. When other companies came along later and developed systems using similar technology, they had to call it something else. That’s where the term Variable Refrigerant Flow came from.

Ventilation

What is Exhaust Hood?
A range hood is a vent hood or exhaust hood, is an enclosure for the area over your range that uses a fan to collect steam, smoke, fumes and other airborne particles nder the stove.
What Are Ducted Range Hoods?
Ducted hoods are fairly common, although some kitchen designs may limit where they can be installed, due to the fact that these hoods need to be able to move the air out of the kitchen. In this way, they are restricted as to where they can be placed in the kitchen. A ducted range hood must be connected to a duct with pipes that carry the airborne particles away from the kitchen to the outdoors. This is what differentiates it from a ductless range hood, which instead just recirculates through a filter and then back into the kitchen.
What Are Ductless Range Hoods?
Ductless hoods can be installed almost anywhere. Since they don’t need to vent to your home’s exterior and are ductless, you are not required to install them only where there is a duct. These hoods operate by filtering the air they suck in and then blowing it back out into the room, essentially using a recirculation process.
The Pros & Cons
By weighing the various advantages and disadvantages of each type of hood, you can better decide which one is most suitable for your particular kitchen.
My experience with JW Plumbing has been exceptional from start to finish. A lot of prior research went into my ultimate decision to go with JW for my air conditioning needs. Josh Weinstein impressed me from the get-go with his honest and straight forward demeanor. Coupled with his competitive pricing and knowledgeable assessment of my situation, I was sold. That being said, the work that was done exceeded my expectations. The technician was efficient, focused, respectful and tidy. Two thumbs up for JW Plumbing!!
